派遣の宿命

現在、派遣社員として生きております。
派遣先は、一般企業ではなく独立行政法人です。

仕事を始めたのは9月初め。2度目のカナダ留学から帰って来て、1ヵ月後のことでした。本当は、別に働きたい企業があって、顔合わせまでしたのですが、折り合いがつかず契約成立まで至りませんでした。しかも、先方のお断りの理由が「私にスキルがありすぎるから」というどうも納得の行かない理由。ものすごいショックを受けて、落ち込んでいたところに、同じ派遣会社から「ここなんてどうですか？時給も高いし、英語も使えるし。期間は2ヶ月で短いけれど、帰国後のお仕事スタートとしては良いんじゃないですか？」と勧められたのが今の職場です。

前回のショックの中にいた私は「もうどうでもいいや」と半ばヤケクソで面接に行きました。そうしたらあっさりOK。ま、いいか。2ヶ月だし・・・と軽い気持ちで働き始めました。でも、思ったより早く職場に馴染み、毎日楽しくなってきました。英語の文献はたくさん読めるし、Eメールで英語も使えるし、周りの環境は良いし、帰りにフィドルの練習にも行ける。社員食堂も美味しいし、職場の人はみんな穏やかで優しいし。2ヶ月で終わるのは寂しいな・・・と思いながら、11月からの仕事を探そうと、先週から活動を始めていたのです。

一件話が進みそうな案件があったのですが、企業側の都合で募集自体が無くなってしまって、がっかり。「これが派遣の宿命なのね。さて、これからどうしよう・・・」と思っていたところに！

今の職場から、契約延長のお話をいただいたのです

ありがたいことです。
でも、仕事の内容がちょっと変わってしまうので、英語使用率が落ちる上に、時給も下がってしまうと言うちょっと残念なお話。それでも、短期だから少し高めの時給をいただいていたので、時給が下がるのは仕方ないな、でも英語は使いたいな、時給下がるのは良いとしても、もっと英語の仕事させてもらえないかな・・・と色々考えていたら、本日何と「仕事内容はちょっと変わるけど、英語使用率そのまま、時給もそのまま」というダブルでありがたいお話が！！

もちろん即答で、承諾しました。
これでしばらく仕事探しをしなくて済む・・・。（ホンネ）

派遣社員って、ちょっと甘く見られてしまうところがあったりしますが、実は腕一本で生きて行く！という結構潔い生き方をしていたりします。日本では、社員であれば、どんなに仕事ができなくても簡単にクビにはなりませんが、派遣はあっさり切られます。それが派遣の宿命なのです。自分の働き次第で次の道が決まる。毎日毎日が勝負なのです。

今回の契約更新は、自分の働きが認められた気がして、とても嬉しいです。望んで下さったみなさんに感謝して、引き続き貢献できたら、と思います。

 

 I've been temping.

I started working at the current office early September. After one month I came back from Canada. Actually before that I applied for another job and got an interview, but no contract concluded. The company turned me down with the word "You are over skilled for this job. You will be bored soon." I got a shock and couldn't understand it. The temporary staff agency recommended me another job. "How about here? You can use English and the hourly wage is good. Despite of the short contract of two months, you can be used to working in Japan." Then I work the office now.

Since I was still in a shock, I didn't care any. I went to the interview impulsively, and I got the job. Once I started the job, I got used to it much more quickly than I expected and I came to enjoy it. I can read a lot of English reports, email in English, the office is comfortable, I can go for practice fiddle after work, the dinning is nice, bosses and coworkers are smart and kind. I felt loneliness when I remember that I have to leave after two months.

I started to look for next job and found one I am interested in, but suddenly the offerer cancelled it, so I was puzzled what to do.

However, I got an offer of extension of the current contract ! It seldom happens.

But I found out that I didn't need English for the new offer and the wage would become a little lower. I knew it could not be helped because the current wage was a kind of special being short contract. I want to use English, still I hoped though. After negotiation with the temporary staff agency, they negotiated with the office where I work for, then another offer came out today. You know what !? the wage is preserved and still I can use English ! Of course, I took it at a time.

I really appreciate it. Some say that temping is not serious but actually it is. In Japan, permanent workers rarely get fired easily, even if they are not efficient. Temp staff does. This is the way it is, so we cannot be lazy, otherwise we will lose the job. I am really happy with the extension of the contract because it means that they judged I was efficient. I'd like to be diligent and contribute the organization.
